Professional slate cleaning, coating removal, sealing and restoration across London. We assess whether your floor is riven, semi-riven, honed or smooth before selecting the correct process.
Riven and textured slate traps dirt, grease and old cleaning residue inside its natural clefts. Failed sealers and wax can create patchy sheen, clouding or sticky areas. Correct restoration starts by identifying what is on the stone before any new product is applied.
Fine abrasion and foot traffic reduce the stone's natural sheen. Honing or polishing may be needed to restore an even finish.
Porous slate can absorb oils, drinks and everyday contamination that ordinary cleaning leaves behind.
Acidic substances can chemically alter the surface. These marks usually need controlled honing rather than cleaning alone.
Darkened, missing or deteriorating grout affects the whole floor and may allow moisture beneath the tiles.
When protection has failed, liquids absorb faster and daily maintenance becomes more difficult.
Natural cavities and deteriorated factory filler trap dirt and may need colour-matched filling before refinishing.
The treatment is selected for your stone, its finish and the depth of damage. We recommend only the stages the floor actually needs.

Stone-safe solutions, rotary agitation and controlled extraction remove ingrained soil, grease and residue from the stone, grout lines and natural cavities.
Diamond abrasives refine the stone itself. Honing removes surface wear and creates a smooth matt or satin finish; additional polishing stages can increase reflectivity where the slate type and condition allow.

Once the stone is clean and fully dry, an appropriate impregnating sealer can protect from moisture and staining without creating a plastic-looking surface film.
Open cavities, failed filler, minor cracks and damaged grout can often be repaired. Where a floor has several problems, restoration combines deep cleaning, repairs, honing, polishing and sealing.

No two slate floors are identical. The stone type, finish, porosity, previous products and damage determine which stages are appropriate.

We inspect staining, etching, scratches, grout, tile stability and the existing protective treatment.
Furniture is cleared where possible and adjacent surfaces are protected before machinery and solutions are introduced.
Stone-safe pre-treatment, mechanical agitation and extraction remove embedded soil and old maintenance residue.
Diamond abrasives correct surface wear, etching, scratches or unevenness to the depth agreed in the quotation.
The floor is refined to the agreed honed, satin or polished finish, subject to the characteristics of the stone.
Once dry, a suitable impregnating sealer is applied where included, followed by a final quality check and aftercare guidance.
The outcome depends on the stone's condition and history. We assess the floor first and explain what can realistically be improved.
Before
AfterCleaning, surface refinement and protection can restore a cleaner, more even and easier-to-maintain finish.
Grout
HonedTargeted grout cleaning and controlled honing improve visual consistency across the whole installation.
We treat slate in occupied homes and demanding commercial spaces, with the process adapted to access, footfall and the desired finish.

Kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, reception rooms, utility areas, rental properties and homes being prepared for sale.

Offices, receptions, retail spaces, communal areas and managed developments requiring a professional presentation.

High-footfall slate care for lobbies, restaurants and guest-facing areas, with scheduling discussed around operations.

Slate is softer and more chemically sensitive than ceramic, porcelain or granite. Products that are safe on another floor can etch slate, weaken its finish or interfere with sealers.
We cover Central, West, North, East, South and wider Greater London. Share your postcode when requesting a quotation and we will confirm coverage.

We work with riven, semi-riven, honed, smooth and polished-finish slate, including commonly installed Indian, Welsh and Brazilian slate.
Many heavily soiled or badly coated floors can be significantly improved through stripping, repeated deep cleaning and correct resealing. We explain the likely result before work begins.
A common cause is old sealer, wax or contamination remaining on the surface, or new sealer being applied before the floor was fully clean and dry.
Yes. We select a slate-safe stripping system according to the coating and stone type, then rinse and dry the floor fully before applying new protection.
Riven slate cannot be polished like marble because its textured surface is part of the stone. The suitable route is deep cleaning followed by an appropriate natural or colour-enhancing sealer.
Sometimes. A test area is carried out first. Suitable smooth slate may be refined with diamond pads to improve minor marks and create a more consistent finish.
The choice depends on slate type, finish and environment. Options may include natural impregnating, colour-enhancing impregnating or suitable topical sealers for selected dry interior floors.
Lifespan depends on product type, traffic and maintenance. Periodic testing and reapplication are necessary; no sealer should be treated as permanent.
No. Interior slate is cleaned using controlled rotary or planetary equipment, suitable brushes or pads and wet extraction.
A straightforward domestic clean and reseal may be completed within a day. Floors requiring heavy stripping or restoration can take longer.
Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner in the recommended dilution. Avoid acidic products and excessive detergent.
